Information about the latest 751BD/651BD Firmware Update

February 10th 2015:  751BD(CU)-16-0605

There is a new firmware update for the 751BD/651BD. The 751BD and 651BD use the same firmware. As such, the following update applies to both models.

- Region A (North, Central and South American and Southeast Asian countries plus Taiwan, Japan, China Hong Kong, China Macau and Korea).

- Region B (most European, African and southwest Asian countries plus Australia and New Zealand).

Features of the new update (version 751BD(CU)-16-0605) include the following:

  1. Fixes a bug in calculating acoustic propagation delay from the "Speaker Distance" parameters of the "Speaker Configuration" setting.
  2. Resolves an incorrect 4:3 aspect ratio display with some user-generated MKV and MPEG files. When the customer set the "Primary Output" to HDMI 1 and played video in 4:3, double pillar box could be observed on the pictures from HDMI 1 Output. This has been fixed in this update.
  3. Resolves a HDMI handshaking issue introduced by a Sony firmware update to their 4K Ultra HDTV, such as the XBR-55X900A model. The 651BD/751BD could immediately lock up once its HDMI 1 output was connected to the television. This was caused by the new data field related to HDMI 2.0 support in the television's Extended Display Identification Data (EDID) block. We added special handling for these fields and resolved this issue.
  4. Resolves a compatibility issue with the SiliconDust HDHomeRun Prime CableCard TV tuner. If both the TV tuner and the player were connected to the same home network, the player could slow down and produce interrupted images for disc playback after a few minutes. The problem is resolved in this firmware.

All features and improvements of previous firmware updates are also included in this latest version.

Note: playback of BDMV folders/files, ISO files and SACD-R is not supported due to copy protection laws.

The easiest way to update your player is to connect it to the internet, via the player’s Ethernet/wi-fi connection. The next time the unit powers up, the player will see that an update is available and will automatically prompt you to update the firmware for your 751BD/651BD (so long as firmware notification is ON in the Device Setup Menu). Alternatively, select Upgrade Firmware – Via Network, also within the Device Setup menu.

If it is not possible to connect your 751BD/651BD to the internet to update it, then you can also carry out the update via USB, following the instructions below. Please note the following; You must load only the correct region version for your 751BD/651BD. The 751BD/651BD is region locked for Blu-ray, and it is not possible to load the Region A update onto a Region B unit, for example.

Please first check the rear panel of your 751BD/651BD for confirmation of the player’s correct Blu-ray region – you will see A or B clearly marked within a hexagonal globe, just to the left of the mains inlet.

Important: Loading the incorrect firmware version may corrupt your 751BD/651BD. Cambridge Audio accepts no liability for an incorrect firmware version being installed. If you are at all unsure about carrying out the update yourself, please contact your dealer, who will be happy to update your 751BD/651BD for you.
